A New Frontier in Regenerative Medicine — From Periodontal Treatment to Whole-Body Healing
A New Frontier in Regenerative Medicine — From Periodontal Treatment to Whole-Body Healing
By Dr. Ryo Tomoeda
In June 2025, our clinic received official approval from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan to provide intravenous stem cell therapy using autologous adipose-derived stem cells for the treatment of periodontal disease. The treatment officially commenced in July, marking us as the first in Fukuoka Prefecture and the seventh nationwide to be approved for this type of regenerative medical care. Our registration is publicly viewable on the Ministry’s official “e-Regenerative Medicine” platform.
This therapy involves harvesting stem cells from the patient’s own fat tissue, culturing them in a certified facility, and administering them via intravenous infusion. Although the approved indication is periodontal disease, because the cells are introduced into the bloodstream, the treatment may promote systemic benefits, such as maintaining homeostasis, stimulating natural healing, reducing inflammation, and supporting tissue regeneration.
What Are Stem Cells, and Why Are They Drawing Attention?
Stem cells are unique in that they possess two vital capabilities: self-renewal (the ability to replicate themselves) and multipotency (the ability to differentiate into various types of cells). At birth, the human body is rich in stem cells, which are essential for tissue repair and regeneration.
However, as we age, these stem cells decline dramatically. It is said that by age 40, the quantity and quality of stem cells is reduced to roughly 50% of youthful levels, and by age 60, only a few percent remain. This depletion is believed to be one of the underlying causes of aging and disease.
To counter this, stem cell therapy is being explored in fields such as preventive medicine, anti-aging, and the treatment of intractable conditions, garnering global attention in both research and clinical settings.

Conditions Treated and Clinical Cases
The effectiveness of stem cell therapy has been reported in numerous international and domestic studies. Conditions with promising results include:
Osteoarthritis (knee, hip): cartilage regeneration, pain relief
Spinal cord injury: neural regeneration support
Post-stroke complications: motor function recovery
Myocardial infarction & heart failure: cardiac tissue repair
Liver cirrhosis: liver cell regeneration and function restoration
Diabetes: protection and regeneration of pancreatic β-cells
Fibromyalgia & chronic pain: anti-inflammatory pain modulation
Severe burns & skin ulcers: enhanced wound healing
Hair loss & skin aging: aesthetic tissue regeneration
Notable Case Studies:
Female, 60s (knee osteoarthritis): regained knee mobility and stair-climbing ability within 3 months after treatment.
Male, 50s (post-stroke complications): improved fine motor function following stem cell infusion and rehabilitation.
Patient with 60% third-degree burns: achieved significant wound closure and avoided infection within 4 weeks of treatment.
How This Differs from “Stem Cell Supernatant” or Cosmetics
In contrast to popular products like stem cell cosmetics or culture supernatant drips, which contain only growth factors secreted by stem cells, our therapy involves the infusion of live stem cells themselves. These cells can proliferate, survive, and actively secrete growth factors inside the patient’s body for sustained regenerative effects.
This distinction is critical: whereas supernatant provides a temporary dose of signaling molecules, our therapy restores regenerative capacity by replenishing actual stem cells, akin to a cellular transplant.
Why Choose Our Clinic for Stem Cell Therapy?
1. Certified and Regulated by Japanese Law
Stem cell therapies in Japan are strictly regulated under the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine (2014). All facilities must be approved by the Ministry of Health and undergo continuous monitoring and annual reporting.
In contrast, many countries lack such rigorous safety protocols, and adverse outcomes have occurred overseas, leading international patients to seek safer, more advanced treatment in Japan.
2. Top-Tier Cell Processing Facility (Cell Lab Tsubasa CPC)
Our partnered lab has a strong track record and collaborative research history with Kyushu University and AIST. Only stem cells with over 95% viability are selected for use.
3. Visual Confirmation of Your Cells
Patients can view the harvested fat and stem cells under a microscope, enhancing understanding and peace of mind—an option rarely provided elsewhere.
4. Premier Location and Hospitality
Our clinic is located on the 2nd floor of Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City, which also houses The Ritz-Carlton Fukuoka. Patients can expect world-class hospitality in a modern, multilingual environment just 3 minutes from Tenjin Station.
5. Exclusive Status in Fukuoka
We are the only clinic in Fukuoka Prefecture authorized to provide systemic (intravenous) stem cell therapy for periodontal disease under government approval.
6. Affordable and Transparent Pricing
We understand that regenerative therapy can be costly. Our team works to keep costs as accessible as possible through operational efficiency and transparency.
